Quirindi is a small town on the North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, in Liverpool Plains Shire. At the 2011 census, Quirindi had a population of 2,580. It is the nearest link to Gunnedah to the west and Tamworth to the north. The local economy is based on agriculture, with broadacre farming dominant on the black soil plains to the west and livestock grazing in the hilly eastern part of the district.
The town is on the Kamilaroi Highway 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) northwest of its junction with the New England Highway at Willow Tree.
Sense of community
There’s a real sense of community in New South Wales country towns, and Quirindi is certainly no exception. The Show Society’s annual Spring Show, held every year on the second weekend in September, showcases our area at its very best with so much to see and do over a huge weekend. There are also lots of opportunities for locals to get involved and make a difference in our community – check out the upcoming Quirindi Canter Fun Run on April 6th, which will help Youngcare support young people with special needs in our community. Quirindi, Werris Creek and the friendly villages across Liverpool Plains Shire really show the true heart and community spirit of country towns.
Fantastic for kids
Quirindi is a great place for families – a safe, friendly country town with so many opportunities for kids. There are heaps of options for kids to get active and make new friends. The Quirindi Basketball junior competition starts on 2nd May, or try out one of the youth programs at the YMCA Recreation Centre like ‘Junior Knuckle-Up’, a fun, kids-only kickboxing activity after school on Thursdays. There are a number of excellent schools in the area, such as Quirindi High School, St Joseph’s Primary School and Quirindi Pre-School Kindergarten, just to name a few!
